Aranmula mirror is described as the mirror of goddess Parvathi .Many hindus are believed that the mirror brings prosperity to those who keep it.

In an ordinary mirror there is a silver nitrate coating which reflects the image of the object. In aranmula mirror there is no such coating.

When the surface of an ordinary mirror comes into contact with a piece of paper , there appears a gap between the object and the image.But in the case of the aranmula miror , the object and the image merge. For the manufacture of aranmula mirror the craftsman requires much devotion, practice,attention & patience.

PECULIARITIES OF THE MIRROR

The manufacturing of Aranmula mirror in its original form is at present limited to one house hold.
Aranmula metal mirror manufacturing , began in the early 18 th century.The origin of Aranmula metal mirror is closely connected to the Parthasarathy temple.



In 18 th century , eight families of Sankaran kovil [ tirunelveli district , Tamil nadu ] were brought to Aranmula in connection with certain works in the temple.They are prepared a bronze crown for the lord.These artisans discovered that one particular copper bronze alloy possessed great reflective property. However , they were not able to reproduce the same effect in future compositions.A widow of the community Parvathy amma again developed the secret ratio of the alloy .Since then, Aranmula is known as the land of this wonderful metal mirror.
